We the employment based immigrant community to do some thing to help his family. May be by contributions, and help his family to get his benefits from the company he worked, any insurance, IRA, 401K etc.....
Hiis spouse may not have the ability do these things from a foreign country. Some body from IV must contact his family now based in Sweden. This is my suggestion.

I landed in June 2006 in Toronto. If anybody needs information please feel free to ask.
What documents, applications need to be filled out after we land in Canada; in-terms of applying for the Resident Card, Social Insurance Number etc. I don't even know what else needs to be filled out.
Can we fill these applications on-line or must be fill them out only after we have landed physically in Canada?
After landing, how long before we can come back to the USA for resuming our job?

I have a bad feeling about IVs goals. Are you only concerned about getting the GC backlogs cleared? or are you going to be asking for H1b related issues to be addressed too? eg:- H1b renewal after the 6th year is an issue any moron could easily understand and pass. That has been there for many years and should continue for a successful H1b program. Please take care of that issue too. I dont see that included in the letter you have prepared to be sent out to all the senators. Please do that urgently. This is a very techinical issue and can easily be campaingned for. Pls dont ignore it.
If the number 3 in the letter has something to do with H1b renewal, pls reword it and make it clear, however, Idont believe its related to h1b renewal atall.

What about people who were stuck for years in backlog and then got laid off and could not port their priority dates. I know a few who come came to US in 99 and now have a priority date of 2007 with a new employer....It should clearly be based on number of years of stay in US or expereince

I did called NSC IO yesterday and she said that my packet must have been in caught up in the front log.

I and my wife have been SCREAMING, FIGHTING for over four years now. We are now so frustrated that we have EVEN DISCUSSED THINGS LIKE TAKING UP OUR LIVES !!! I really mean it. For both of us, our career is the single most important thing.
We had decided to wait for our next step in life like having a kid or putting in a big investment till we both at least have a job. Inspite of both of us having Masters degress from US universities, we are both suffering - me languishing in a filthy job and my wife on H4 - for the past 5 years !!! She is now more than 35 making it difficult to have kids etc...
I don't have the choice of going back to my home country due to many other personal reasons. I just don't know what to do... I am losing my sanity.
Man, this website relieves my stress as it makes me realize that there are people whole lot depressed than I am , and it puts my life into perspective. Stress is only a state of mind.
For you sir, please live up to your username and cheer up. First thing you need to do is make a baby, everything will fall in it's place, trust me.

Abuse can happen as long as there are desi consulting companies. Major companies in silicon valley does not file for an EB2 unless salary is > 95k and unless they advertise M.S. + 2 years. How many desi consulting company jobs are really EB2 jobs? Think about it.

The latest trend is, leave current job where they filed an EB3. Go to desi consulting company, file for EB2 with old priority date. Get GC. Come back to old company with hike and of-course GC.

As for porting, I don't see any scope for abuse. Cuz the process is in such a way, that one has to refile labor, 140, and all the exact procedures similar any freshly new EB-2 candidate would. The only difference is that at the end, one has option to request his/her earlier date.

For people who have already landed and were not able to get a PR card applied, please follow the following link and apply for it.

2. All the people who landed, as you cant apply for your spouse or kids PR.

Is it possible for an administrative fix at the USCIS where the H-1B worker doesn't fall out of status immediately on losing his/her job? Or would such a provision require a law to be passed by the Congress?
A grace period of say 3 months to look for a job, or to pack up and leave, would relieve the pressure on the laid off H-1B worker and reduce incidents of system abuse.
If this can be done at the USCIS, perhaps we can write to the Obudsman and also to the USCIS director/associate directors. This is an important issue in this economy. I will be happy to draft a letter.
Good intention but this type of information by telling legislators actually hurts the cause. You want people to remain in USA but not complying with the visas.
Pre 9/11 when the economy was slowing down and there were layoffs; there was a memo from uscis that they would be lenient in transfer cases (give a period of a couple of months without paystubs). However; everything changed in 2002/2003 when INS went to 0 tolerance policy (ashcroft had a press conference saying this). That is when things started to change. The memo has since been rescinded (ie., zero tolerance policy).
